After a strong winning season last summer, the dive team will move up to compete in division 6! We are very excited to have three new coaches -- Kevin Tan, Allie Sherlock, and Caroline McCleary -- to teach our divers this summer. Look for new coaching techniques, including dryland conditioning!
If your child has an interest in diving, please encourage her or him to try it. No experience necessary -- children aged 5-18 are welcome if they can jump off the board and pass the swimming test administered by the lifeguard staff. Our program, as well as the NVSL, emphasizes teaching children the proper technique for safe diving and a love for the sport If you decide not to continue with diving past June 24, you may ask for a refund. There is even a special rate for those who register for both swim and dive team!
We are counting on last year’s divers returning for another fun filled summer, and look forward to welcoming many
newcomers to our team.
Great Falls will compete in NVSL Dive Division 6 this summer. NVSL rules categorize divers into groups according to their age on 6/1/2013. Your age on that date determines what age group you are in for the entire summer season. You may dive in a more difficult group if you wish.

Registration
Register for dive team using the 2013 Registration button to the left or by clicking the link below. Fees for 2012 are $150 per diver. You will pay when you register, but can be refunded if your child formally withdraws by June 24 via an email to Heidi Toloczko at toloczko1@verizon.net. This allows divers to try out and determine if they want to stay with the sport. Any child participating in both swim and dive teams will be charged a total of $250.
Each diver should pick an hour to practice each day. Suggested ages for the morning practices coordinate with the the swim team practices, but if you have a conflict, you are welcome to practice a different hour.
After-school practices, Mon-Fri (May 28 to June 18, no practice June 13: 4:30-5:30 PM: (for 11 and over, if you are also swimming) 5:30-6:30 PM: (10 and under, for divers who also swim)
June 19-July 18, Mon-Fri (June 21-26 practice for Divisional divers only): 9:15-10:15 AM: especially for 10 and under swimmers 10:30-11:30 AM: for 11 and up 4:00-5:30 PM: afternoon practice (Wed-Fri) for junior coaches, select experienced divers, and those with conflicts during the morning (this should ensure that every diver gets more quality time on the boards). Additional practice Monday 4:00-5:30 PM and Sunday 6-7:30 PM open to all.
Tuesday meets begin at 6 PM; we warm up at 4 PM if the meet is at home, and at 5 PM if the meet is away: June 25: at Villa Aquatic July 2: at Woodley July 9: home against ILDA July 16: at Lakeview July 23: home against Sleepy Hollow Rec
Additional meets: July 14 (Sunday): Wally Martin (the 3 meter meet) at Oak Marr Rec Center. We hope to have a few divers compete, and more to watch them! Remember the Olympic exhibition we attended last year? Now it's our turn on the high dive!
July 21 (Sunday): Cracker Jack, the novice meet, is at Mansion House. This is an all-day meet especially for novice divers -- the world's largest one-day meet. Divers compete by year, which means 6 year-olds dive against each other, instead of 10 year-olds, so new divers can see how they rank against their peers -- and take home a ribbon and a box of Cracker Jacks!
July 28: Divisional meet for top divers at SHRA August 4: All-Stars, for Divisional qualifiers, is at Donaldson Run.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon for a summer of learning new skills and forging friendships!
Parent Volunteers Needed
Several parents are needed to run each meet; 5 for away meets, and 6 for home meets. Classes are offered through the NVSL to train parents to judge; we need at least one more judge! The other positions only take a few minutes to learn.
